The wonderful new vat room of Domaine Faiveley
On June 18, 2018, we had the honor and privilege of discovering the new winery of Domaine FaiveleyA magnificent visit for the eyes and the taste buds. A big thank you to domaine for giving us the opportunity to visit this iconic place in the heart of Nuits-Saint-Georges.
After two and a half years of renovating the 19th-century family home, the Domaine Faiveley They open the doors of their new winery to us. Upon entering, we are first directed into the new vat roomWe were very pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the place. We could still smell the new wood and the fine materials used. A long, narrow winery with temperature-controlled wooden vats opens onto a magnificent glass roof, offering a wonderful view of the vineyards. How beautiful! This new winery will be in use from the next vintage that of 2018We had the opportunity to taste the Nuits-Saint-Georges “Aux Chaignots” on the 2015 and 2016 vintages.
Afterwards, we continued our tour of the premises by the winery visitFor over two years, each stone in the wine cellar was cleaned one by one to bring more light into the space. The result is incredible! Despite the renovations, the cellar master continued...breeding of its wines, a remarkable feat that couldn't have been easy every day. Between the Burgundy barrels of Chambolle-Musigny, Clos of Vougeot Grand Cru or even prestigious Musigny Grand Cru of which there are only 3, the discovery of the vintages of domaine continued. We had the honor of tasting: Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2015, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2016, Clos of Vougeot Grand Cru 2016 and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015. Not forgetting the Monopole of the House Faiveley, the Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley » Grand Cru. For this vintage, they offered us a vertical tasting of the 2017 vintages (still in the barrel and served by the Cellar Master), 2016 – simply magnificent – as well as the 1998 vintage.
We then continued our visit to the heart of the House. There, we were also able to discover the delicious white wines of domaine. Between Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain 2015 and Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2014, my heart is torn!
The tour of the premises ended with a lovely cocktail reception and a stunning view of the neighboring vineyards. Erwan and Eve Faiveley They gave a moving speech after these two and a half years of work. A true accomplishment for the family. This new generation has brought a breath of fresh air to this great domaine. The wines now offer a more feminine style and the quality only improves from vintage to vintage.
