Owner and history

Historians have identified all the owners who have succeeded one another on the Calon estate since the 12th century. The Gascq, Ségur, Dumoulin, Lestapis, and Gasqueton families are the most recent and best known. In 2012, the Gasqueton family sold the Calon Ségur and Capbern castles to Suravenir, a subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Arkéa group. Jean-Pierre Denis, its president, partnered with Jean-François Moueix and his son Jean, owners of the Videlot group. Together, they undertook a renovation worthy of this magnificent heritage.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Calon-Ségur is an art that blends tradition and innovation. The grapes, harvested by hand, are carefully sorted before being vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, ensuring a gentle extraction of tannins. Aging takes place in oak barrels, a percentage of which are new, for approximately 12 to 18 months, depending on the vintage. This period allows the wine to refine, developing complex aromas and an elegant structure. The mastery of each stage, from harvest to bottling, testifies to the exacting standards of the domaine to offer high-quality wines.
