History of the Estate Château Cos Labory

the story of Château Cos Labory

An ideal terroir

SAINT-ESTÈPHE FIFTH GREAT CLASSIFICATION

Château de Cos Labory stands on the Cos hill in Saint-Estèphe. The vines of this Fifth Growth Classified estate cover 18 hectares. The soil, composed of Günzian gravel over limestone marl, is home to the three flagship grape varieties of the region. Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (35%), and Cabernet Franc (10%) benefit from natural drainage thanks to the slopes. The gravel also ensures consistent heat retention, which is released during the night. The vines have an average age of 40 years. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable farming practices.

The know-how

WINEMAKING

The new generation of owners has left its mark on the Château with an initial wave of changes. Indeed, it quickly became apparent that the vat room needed modernizing, followed by the construction of a new winery. From then on, after hand-harvesting, the grapes are placed in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for their first maceration. This stage lasts 18 to 25 days. Malolactic maceration has been practiced at the estate since 1995. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels.
