History of Lynch-Bages Castle

Thomas Lynch managed the estate from 1794 to 1824. He was the son of John Lynch, originally from Galway, Ireland, who became a wine merchant in Bordeaux. He took great care of his land and produced great wines from it. The "Cru de Lynch" is the most famous. It quickly rose to become one of the fifth growths in the renowned 1855 Classification, a true benchmark. This classification was established for the Universal Exhibition in Paris. It helped Bordeaux wines gain recognition, including those from the Lynch estate. Subsequently, "Lou Janou," a sturdy farmer from Ariège, took over the estate. His son, Jean-Charles, was already farming Château Ormes de Pez. Shortly before the start of the Second World War, he decided to acquire both properties. Since then,Lynch-Bagesis run by the Cazes family.

Today, Nicolas Labenne is in charge of the vineyard ofLynch-BagesIn total, 35 people manage the estate on a daily basis. Franck Debrais leads the teams responsible for vineyard work.Château Lynch BagesNo step in the winemaking process is left to chance. Every step is carried out meticulously, from sorting the grapes directly in the vineyards to the fining, done in the tranquil setting of the cellars. The composition of the grand vin is unique. Indeed, it varies from year to year, depending on the climatic conditions and the vines' adaptation to them. A panel of experts, chaired by Jean-Charles Cazes, creates the final blend to ensure its suitability for aging. Daniel Llose, Nicolas Labenne, and Jérôme Le Roux make up the technical team responsible for this painstaking blending.

Since 2006, satellite technologies and sophisticated soil quality surveys have greatly refined the vineyard division. Thanks to this new organization of the vineyard, theChâteau Lynch BagesThis ensures the preservation of its viticultural genetic heritage. It is thus possible to appreciate the specific characteristics of the terroir. These characteristics are then valued and, above all, preserved sustainably. Thanks to this, the organization of the harvest is also facilitated, as is the winemaking process. On the estate, the environmental impact is minimized.
