The Domaine Philippe Alliet, located in Cravant-les-Côteaux, is one of the most respected and sought-after signatures of the Chinon appellation. Often described as the "goldsmith" of Cabernet Franc, Philippe Alliet, now supported by his son Pierre, has hoisted the domaine at the top of the Loire hierarchy thanks to an almost perfectionist approach.

A Vineyard of Hillsides and Precision

THE domaine extends over approximately 17 hectares, with a diversity of terroirs that allows Cabernet Franc to be expressed in several facets:

            • The Gravel Plains: Used primarily for la cuvée TraditionThey offer wines that are delicious, supple and focused on immediate fruit.

            • The Clay-Siliceous Hillsides (L'Huisserie): This terroir brings a firmer structure, density and a charcoal-like minerality.

            • The Clay-Limestone Hillside (Noiré Hillside): It is the jewel of the domaine. A steep, south-facing slope that produces wines of exceptional concentration and depth, built for aging for several decades.

Philosophy: The Bordeaux Inspiration in the Loire

Philippe Alliet is known for having brought to Chinon a rigor inspired by the great châteaux of Bordeaux (which he particularly likes), while respecting the Loire identity:

            • Vineyard management: A very thorough, reasoned approach to farming (close to organic), systematic plowing and a total elimination of chemical fertilizers.

            • Yield control: The pruning is extremely severe and the harvest is done by hand with drastic sorting, guaranteeing perfect phenolic ripeness (rarely any notes of green pepper here).

            • Evolution of livestock farming: If the domaine Having long used 225-liter Bordeaux barrels, since 2010 he has turned to demi-muids (500 litres) and concrete vats to limit the impact of the wood and to enhance the brightness of the fruit and the purity of the terroir.

            The Iconic Vintages

            1. Chinon Tradition: Pure fruit, crunch and freshness.

            2. Vieilles Vignes : Produced from vines aged 40 to 70 years on gravelly soils, it offers more depth and complexity.

            3. The Huisserie: A dense and smooth wine, very complete.

            4. Noiré hillside: La cuvée legendary, rivaling the greatest red wines of France in its power and refinement.

            5. Chinon Blanc: A rarity (less than one hectare of Chenin) produced on clay and silica soils, offering a wine of tension and gastronomy.

            The Alliet Style

The wines are distinguished by a dark dress, a dense material but some remarkably silky tanninsThese are wines that "showcase" Cabernet Franc: they are serious, deep, but always retain that vibration and freshness specific to the Loire.
