Located near Bourges , the Menetou-Salon appellation covers about ten communes, including Menetou-Salon itself. The sea completely covered the Menetou-Salon region during the Mesozoic Era. Seabeds of calcareous sediments, very rich in shells, were formed at that time. These homogeneous, mineral-rich soils are ideal for the development of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes.
The low hillsides on Kimmeridgian marl are similar to those of its famous neighbor: Sancerre . The wines are imbued with this unique terroir!
The Philippe Gilbert Estate
Domaine Philippe Gilbert is located on the sedimentary soils of Menetou-Salon in the Loire Valley. This superb producer has converted its vineyard to biodynamic farming. Since 1768, the Gilbert family has been producing wines that reflect their terroir. It is a true family and winemaking story that continues to this day.
The estate's wines are the fruit of a dialogue between the winemaker and nature. From the classic Menetou-Salon to the single-vineyard wines, we are completely charmed by this Loire Valley producer!
