Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2021 La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou displays an intense ruby color with purplish highlights. The nose is captivating, with a beautiful aromatic intensity blending blackcurrant, black cherry, cedar, and toasty notes. On the palate, the attack is ample, structured by fine, ripe tannins. Barrel aging imparts a perfectly integrated oak complexity. The finish is long, fresh, and flavorful, carried by a discreet yet persistent minerality.

Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs perfectly with a rack of lamb, a grilled rib of beef or a tournedos Rossini.

The Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard stretches across deep gravelly slopes, rich in siliceous pebbles, which impart structure and freshness to the wine. La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou comes from specific parcels, cultivated with meticulous care and harvested by hand. The grape varieties, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot, take full advantage of a naturally well-drained terroir, ideal for optimal grape ripening.

Owner and history

Bruno-Eugène Borie, at the helm of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, embodies a passionate and demanding generation. Under his guidance, the estate has gained in precision and modernity, without ever denying its two-hundred-year-old heritage. Committed to sustainable viticulture, he strives to enhance every plot of this legendary terroir. Thanks to this vision, La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou receives the same meticulous attention as the Grand Vin, brilliantly reflecting the estate's refined style.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Ducru-Beaucaillou follows a plot-by-plot and artisanal approach, with vinifications in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
For the 2021 La Croix vintage, the wine is aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new, ensuring a beautiful aromatic patina. This meticulous work allows the wine to express the finesse of the fruit, the silky texture, and the characteristic oak influence typical of great Saint-Julien wines.
