History of the Estate Château Gazin

the story of Château Gazin

The illustrious Château Gazin

Historic Pomerol Estate

THEChâteau Gazinis one of the oldest estates in the vineyard ofPomerolIndeed, its reputation was established from the 12th century until the Revolution. Located on the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), the estate takes the name of its second wine from this famous stopping place. Thus, the bottleGazin HospitalIt is inspired by the "Hospital of Pomeyrols", built to accommodate pilgrims. Later, Louis Soualle acquired the castle at the beginning of the twentieth century. Since then, it has remained within the same family.Nicolas and Christophe de BailliencourtThey have jointly managed the estate since 1988. Descended from a long line of winegrowers in Northern France, they are the fifth generation of vineyard owners. They pay particular attention to the legacy of their great-grandfather. A vestige of a place of passage, Château Gazin still welcomes a large number of visitors.

The making of a great wine

Patience and tradition

THEChâteau Gazinplaces paramount importance on respecting the environment. The land is worked with respect for the terroir and ecosystems. Furthermore, the cultivation of the vines is traditional. For this reason,Nicolas and Christophe de BailliencourtThe vineyards require the use of organic fertilizers. Pest control is carried out using sustainable methods. The harvest is done by hand, plot by plot. Thanks to an initial sorting in the vineyard, the grapes for Château Gazin are harvested at perfect ripeness. After the harvesters' initial sorting, two further sortings are performed in the winery: before and after the stems are separated. This comprehensive process optimizes the quality of the fruit. The grapes are then vinified in temperature-controlled cement vats. Variety by variety, they undergo two separate fermentations. The wine then acquires its full complexity during its 18 months of aging in oak barrels.

An iconic castle

Within a renowned appellation

The estate is a member of theUnion of Grands Crus of BordeauxIt is located in one of the most prestigious appellations. The Bailliencourt brothers are contributing to the new impetus of theChâteau GazinThanks to this, they have established themselves as one of the major properties of its appellation.Mickaël Obertis now in charge of the technical direction and winemaking. He ensures that the terroir is fully expressed. His land is composed of clay and thus benefits from a regular water supply. This characteristic allows for the cultivation of magnificent vines with an average age of 35 years. The vineyard is 90% composed ofMerlot7% ofCabernet Sauvignonand 3% ofCabernet FrancThus, the aromatic range is broad, but the grape varieties harmonize to produce profound notes. In short, Château Gazin yields a complex yet consistent wine. Moreover, it possesses admirable aging potential.
