Château Mouton Rothschild through the ages

It all started in 1853, with theBaron Nathaniel de RothschildEager to serve his own wine to his prestigious guests, he purchased Château Brane-Mouton at auction, a property that would henceforth bear his name. In 1924, his great-grandson, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, mandated that all vintages be bottled at the château. Previously, the wine had been delivered in barrels to wine merchants.

After a long struggle, the Castle finally attains the rank ofPremier Cru Classé in 1973which it had been unjustly excluded from during the 1855 Classification. Mouton then officially joined the coveted elite. In 1993, Baroness Philippine created the Second Wine: Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild. She passed away in 2014, leaving Mouton magnificently expanded and modernized. Today, her three children, Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, are co-owners of the Château. They are committed to perpetuating the excellence established by their mother.

Works that made him famous

In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild had the idea of ​​commissioning Jean Carlu to illustrate the wine label, but unfortunately, this initiative came to nothing. It was only in 1945, following the Allied victory, that Baron Philippe asked the artistPhilippe Jullianto illustrate the Mouton Rothschild label. On the bottles, the V for Victory was a resounding success. Each vintage has since featured a reproduction of an original artwork, specially created for Mouton by a contemporary artist. The original artworks illustrating the labels were then revealed to the public in 1981. Since then, they have been displayed in more than 40 museums worldwide. This initiative was spearheaded by Baroness Philippine, the only daughter of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Even today, theMouton Rothschild labelsare the emblem of this House.

90 hectares on the lands of Pauillac

Château Mouton RothschildIt comprises 90 hectares within the Pauillac appellation. Its soil is composed of gravel, pebbles, and gravel, which helps retain the heat from the sun. It is mixed with sands, some of which are clay. The soil of the Médoc is considered unsuitable for any cultivation, being poor, except for producing the world's greatest wines. The terroir also imparts elegance, power, tannic richness, and long aging potential to the red wines. Pauillac and Médoc are among the most prestigious appellations. Indeed, the greatest, Lafite Rothschild, Latour, and Mouton Rothschild, are classified as "First Growth Classified Wines of the Médoc"
