Since its first vintage in 1978, Rubicon has been the flagship of red wines from domaine, embodying Francis Coppola's desire to create a great Bordeaux-style wine, that is to say "a wine capable of satisfying contemporary palates, while possessing a historical dimension [that defines] our vineyards at their peak". The Rubicon takes its name from the small river that Julius Caesar crossed in 49 BC, thus asserting his intention to take control of Rome and triggering a civil war between rival factions. Over time, the expression "crossing the Rubicon" has come to symbolize any irreversible action with revolutionary aims or one whose outcome carries great risk. True to its unique depth, Inglenook's Rubicon once again demonstrates the brilliant mastery of an assumed risk. Under the direction of Philippe Bascaules, winemaking director at Inglenook, Rubicon proudly takes its place alongside much older and revered Inglenook vintages in the cellars of collectors around the world.
