THE Little Clos 2019 is the second vin of the mythical Clos Apalta, exceptional property nestled in the Colchagua Valley in Chile, created by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle (heiress to the Grand Marnier house) and Cyril de Bournet, with historical advice from Michel Rolland.

Originating from the same natural amphitheater and benefiting from the same level of quality as the Grand Vin (which has already received a perfect score of 100/100 several times from international critics), The Little One Clos is designed to offer a more immediate expression, accessible and silky from this unique terroir, while preserving the breed and aromatic power of the property.

The 2019 vintage at Apalta proved to be particularly complete: a hot, dry season balanced by coastal breezes and the cool night air descending from the Andean foothills, allowing the Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon to reach flawless phenolic maturity.

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

Dress: Dark purple, almost black, with deep ruby and garnet highlights. Nose: Intense, enveloping and refined. It opens with aromas of very ripe black fruits (wild blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, fresh fig), enhanced by the typical signature of great Carménère: crushed black pepper, cigar box, cedar, licorice, cocoa bean and a subtly toasted and vanilla touch. On the palate: The attack is dense, ample, and voluptuous. The wine unfolds a caressing texture with extraordinarily polished and velvety tannins. Despite the sun-drenched richness of the 2019 vintage and the power of the fruit, balance is preserved by a fine underlying acidity that prevents any heaviness. The finish is very long and flavorful, ending with notes of sweet spices, almond-scented dark chocolate, and mineral graphite.

    Food & wine pairings

Grilled beef ribs with vine shoots, duck breast with black cherries, lamb shank confit with rosemary, venison fillet with grand veneur sauce, or traditional meat empanadas.

Appellation: Valle de Apalta (DO), Colchagua Valley, Chile. Terroir: A spectacular natural amphitheater in the shape of a horseshoe, protected from excessive heat by coastal hills and bordered by the Tinguiririca River. Soils of decomposed granite origin, mixed with deep clays and gravel, highly draining and water-regulating. Vineyard: Ungrafted vines, grown using certified biodynamic (Demeter) and organic farming methods.

    Owner and history

Clos Apalta was created in 1997 as the flagship wine of Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle in Chile, with the ambition of showcasing the exceptional terroir of Apalta through French winemaking expertise. By cultivating the vineyard vine by vine and building a state-of-the-art winery based on the principle of gravity flow, the family has succeeded in making Clos Apalta is one of the most iconic wines of South America.

    Vinification and aging

Harvest: 100% manual, carried out at night and in the early morning in small crates, followed by manual destemming grain by grain to keep only the perfect berries.
Winemaking: Carried out by gravity in the spectacular circular gravity-flow winery of Clos Apalta. Spontaneous plot fermentations with indigenous yeasts in truncated conical French oak vats. Gentle and prolonged maceration (4 to 5 weeks) to extract the sap from the tannins without harshness.
Aging: Aged for approximately 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 50% new wood and 50% barrels from one wine), then bottled without fining or aggressive filtration.

    The team's opinion

The Little One Clos The 2019 vintage is characterized by its opulent substance, great aromatic complexity, and creamy texture. While its supple texture makes it irresistible now, it possesses the structure and aging potential to mature harmoniously for 8 to 15 years (2025–2038+).
