Tasting notes

This Pinot Noir displays a deep, brilliant ruby color. On the nose, it exudes aromas of black cherry, plum, sweet spices, and earthy notes. The palate is full and silky, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a fruity and spicy impression. A harmonious and elegant red wine.

Food & wine pairings

It will perfectly complement roast poultry dishes, game birds or a wild mushroom risotto.

The Beaux Frères vineyard is situated on a 35-hectare (88-acre) property atop Ribbon Ridge, near Newberg, Oregon. Majestic Douglas firs cover nearly 20 hectares (50 acres) of the property, while the house and winery buildings occupy an additional 3 hectares (8 acres). The vineyard extends over 12 hectares (30 acres) (10 of which are planted) of steep, contiguous hillsides, facing southeast, south, and southwest, composed of Willakenzie-type soils, at an elevation of approximately 120 meters (400 feet). The Upper Terrace vineyard, located just north and slightly higher than the Beaux Frères vineyard, was first planted in 2000. It consists of Pinot Noir clones from Dijon covering approximately 9 acres of the 40-acre site – the remainder being densely wooded and lush with wildlife.

Owner and history

The Beaux Frères estate is now jointly owned by Michael G. Etzel and Artemis Domaines, adding a unique Oregon terroir to a group of world-renowned estates including Château Latour, Domaine Eugenie's, Clos of Tart, Château-Grillet, Champagne Jacquesson and Bouchard Père et Fils in France, as well as the Eisele vineyard in Napa. Thanks to this evolution, the heart of Beaux Frères' winemaking traditions, forged over decades, is returning to its roots.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Beaux Frères is a blend of classic Burgundian traditions and a "laissez-faire" approach typical of great artisan wineries in Oregon. The goal is to allow the Ribbon Ridge terroir to express itself with as little technological intervention as possible.

Organic and Biodynamic Farming: Although not systematically certified on all plots, they follow very strict principles of soil regeneration.

Hand Harvesting: The grapes are harvested at optimal phenolic maturity, often with very low yields to concentrate the aromas.

The team's opinion

The 2019 Beaux Frères Vineyard "The Upper Terrace" is a prestige cuvée from the Ribbon Ridge appellation in the Willamette Valley (Oregon). While the Beaux Frères vineyard is already legendary (founded in part by Robert Parker), the Upper Terrace is often considered the most intense and structured expression of the domaine.
