Located in Montlouis-sur-Loire, Domaine François Chidaine has established itself as a leading name in Loire Valley winemaking. This visionary winemaker has cultivated his vineyards biodynamically for over twenty years, with a deep respect for life and the terroir. The 2020 Clos Habert cuvée, made from old Chenin vines grown on clay-siliceous soils with a limestone subsoil, expresses all the purity and complexity of great Loire white wines. Thanks to meticulous work in both the vineyard and the cellar, the estate produces a wine of great energy, precise, elegant, and built for aging.

Notes and pairings

Tasting notes

The 2020 Clos Habert Blanc boasts a pale gold color with shimmering highlights. The nose offers a beautiful intensity, blending white flowers, ripe apple, and a chalky minerality. The palate, both ample and taut, reveals notes of yellow-fleshed fruit and delicate honey, carried by a vibrant freshness. The finish is long, saline, refined, and leaves an impression of great aromatic precision.

Food & wine pairings

This white Montlouis enhances dishes such as asparagus risotto, grilled langoustines or creamy poultry with morels.

The Clos Habert vineyard rests on tuffeau and flinty clay soils, giving the Chenin Blanc an intense, mineral expression. The vines are cultivated according to biodynamic principles, reinforcing the natural balance between the vine and its environment. This unique terroir of Montlouis-sur-Loire, bathed by the Loire River and tempered by its oceanic climate, allows for the production of wines that are precise, elegant, and possess excellent aging potential.

Owner and history

François Chidaine manages the family estate with exceptional rigor and a resolutely forward-looking vision. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in the Loire Valley, he has helped redefine the quality standards of Montlouis wines. His pursuit of precision, his respect for living organisms, and his deep connection to the terroir make him an iconic figure in French winemaking. Each Chidaine cuvée reflects this total commitment, combining artisanal excellence with remarkable drinkability.

Vinification and aging

At Domaine François Chidaine, winemaking is done without chemical inputs, using indigenous yeasts, and with long, gentle pressing to respect the integrity of the grapes.
The 2020 Clos Habert vintage is then aged in demi-muids for several months on its fine lees to gain complexity and texture. This patient aging process reveals the full potential of Chenin Blanc in a pure expression.
