The Mazis-Chambertin vineyard, situated on clay-limestone soil, benefits from a temperate climate ideal for growing Pinot Noir. The vines, some several decades old, are deeply rooted in an exceptionally rich terroir, where the influences of geology and microclimate combine to produce wines of great finesse. The southeast-facing slopes allow for optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wine its unique character and aromatic complexity.

Owner and history

Today, the Joseph Drouhin estate is run by the Drouhin family, who carry on the legacy of their predecessors with passion and determination. The current owners are committed to maintaining the estate's reputation for excellence while looking to the future with sustainable winemaking practices. Their dedication to quality and respect for the environment is central to their philosophy, ensuring that every bottle of Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is a true expression of the Burgundy terroir.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Domaine Joseph Drouhin is a meticulous art, blending tradition and innovation. The grapes are carefully hand-sorted before being destemmed. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats, allowing for gentle maceration that reveals the full richness of the fruit. Aging occurs in oak barrels, a percentage of which are new, for 14 to 18 months. This process refines the tannins and adds subtle woody notes, while preserving the authenticity of the terroir.
