The palate is full and rich, with a lively acidity that perfectly balances the body. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant mineral sensation. THE domaine is not limited to a single site, but operates a mosaic of vineyards located in the cooler areas of Sonoma County: Russian River Valley: Known for its "Goldridge" silt soils, providing texture and elegance. Sonoma Coast: Sites closer to the Pacific Ocean, where fog and maritime freshness allow for slow ripening and vibrant acidity. Carneros: On the southern border of Sonoma and Napa, ideal for more structured wines. Production is limited and highly prized by collectors (often sold via a very selective allocation list). Les Noisetiers (Chardonnay): Undoubtedly their best-known cuvée, a blend from several coastal vineyards, renowned for its buttery notes, toasted hazelnut and minerality.

    Owner and history

Kistler Vineyards is one of California's most prestigious and iconic wineries, often described as the pioneer of the "Burgundy" style in the United States. Founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler, it has achieved a status of domaine "cult", particularly for its top-notch Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. From the outset, Kistler sought to prove that Californian terroir could produce wines with the finesse and complexity of the great wines of the Côte de Beaune or the Côte de Nuits. Clonal selection: The domaine uses a unique "heritage" Chardonnay clone, imported from Burgundy in the early 20th century, which produces small berries with high concentration and high acidity. Micro-terroirs: Kistler is famous for its single-vineyard winemaking. The domaine produces more than a dozen different Chardonnay cuvées, each expressing the specificity of a single vineyard.

    Vinification and aging

Founded in 1986, at just under 550 meters above sea level, in a small cirque on the western slopes of the Mayacama Mountains, lies Kistler's original vineyard. Forty-year-old vines, cultivated without irrigation, flourish in deep red volcanic soils, giving rise to a wine that intensely expresses its mountain terroir. Kistler's Chardonnay displays delicate and vibrant aromas of stone fruit, with subtle floral notes, much like its cousin McCrea, but with a more assertive structure, a richer body, and a more complex texture.
