Is biodynamic agriculture a solution to global warming?

With the warming of our planet, we are witnessing a rise in temperature and climate disruption. Periods of intense and significantly more violent rainfall follow periods of drought.  How can biodynamics help? How will the winemaker face these new conditions?

Biodynamic agriculture focuses on the health of the soil and the plant.It provides the winegrower with a fairly complete toolbox.
Here are a few examples:

• Herbal teas made from cow dung are designed to organize water retention in the soil, which is of major interest during periods of drought.
• Tillage and cover cropping have major impacts on vine health. On the one hand, the bedrock stops rising to the surface and remains deep in the soil; on the other hand, the land cultivated in this way is less prone to erosion.
• Finally, the deep-rooting system has the advantage for the plant of suffering less from water stress during the summer period and therefore better protecting itself.

As a response to episodes of heavy rainfall, biodynamic agriculture is of major interest:

• The treatment with algae containing magnesium, recommended after hailstorms or heavy rain, allows the vine to quickly regain its vigor.
• Grapes that may be cut by the impact of rain heal instantly rather than offering an open wound to rot.
