Since the 16th century
Sustainability and longevity
The illustrious domain ofCarmes Haut-BrionDating back to the 16th century, it was Lord Jean de Pontac de Haut-Brion who, in 1584, donated his estate. The Carmelite friars were then given his large mill, meadows, and vineyards. At that time, the estate took the name "Carmes Haut-Brion." The congregation ensured the vineyard's continued existence for over two hundred years. It was also they who expanded the estate's land, which today covers more than 13 hectares.
Having reverted to national ownership during the French Revolution, the property was not repurchased until 1840. Léon Colin, a Bordeaux wine merchant, then passed it down through generations of his family. The Chantecaille-Furt family ensured its continued existence until its acquisition by the current owner. Today, the Pichet real estate group, founded by Patrice Pichet, owns the estate. He and his wife have been overseeing the château's upkeep since 2010.
