Echezeaux Grand Cru

It is south of Clos Vougeot, extending into the mountains, that the vineyards of this great Burgundy appellation unfold. Undeniably, like the two most prestigious Grand Cru wines of this wine region, Grands-Echezeaux and Echezeaux reveal themselves as very structured, robust dry red wines. The principal grape variety of these wines remains, unsurprisingly, the traditional Burgundy grape: Pinot Noir. A must-have for your investment cellar.

The Echezeaux Grand Cru appellation is located above Flagey-Echezeaux in Burgundy . The vineyard covers 35.2 hectares between Vougeot and the Premier Cru vineyards of Vosne-Romanée. Pinot Noir is the only grape variety planted on these poor soils, which rest on Jurassic limestone dating back 175 million years. This appellation includes 11 climats (vineyard sites), such as Echezeaux en Dessus, En Orveaux, and Clos Saint Denis.

The Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru appellation is more exclusive and covers 8 hectares. Its vineyards extend from those of Musigny. The wines are even more powerful, elegant, and refined, yet still retain a masculine character.

The red wines of Échezeaux are true wines for aging and improve significantly after a minimum of 5 years in the cellar. Very masculine, the wines have a tight tannic structure: they are both powerful and structured.
Decanted at the right temperature, Echezeaux Grand Cru wine will perfectly complement a roasted shoulder of lamb, a fine piece of grilled beef or even a pot-au-feu.

Among the forty or so estates that share the Echezeaux appellation, Cavissima has selected several masters producing very high-quality wines.

Domaine Louis Jadot

Owning vineyards in both Echézeaux and Grands Echézeaux, Maison Louis Jadot produces a wine with exceptional aging potential, sometimes lasting up to 24 months. Powerful and elegant, these wines offer aromas of red fruit and spice. The Grands Echézeaux wines also display aromas of black fruit.
