In the heart of the cradle of winemaking and very close to the Dentelles de Montmirail, the familyBarruolHe bought his first vines in 1490. Since then, the estate has been passed down within the same family since the 15th century. Henri Barruol established Saint Cosme as a renowned producer as early as 1957. He was one of the first to convert his estate to organic farming.Biologicalin 1972, when he was still selling his wine in barrels. His son, Louis Barruol, took over and has been running the business since 1992. He inherited a healthy vineyard, allowing him to create different vintages ofGigondasof incredible finesse.

The vineyard covers 22 hectares of old vines in the heart ofGigondas.The Dentelles de Montmirailoffer a great diversity of soils and a geological mosaic. The climate is particularly cold and late-ripening, which brings remarkable freshness to the wines. The vineyards extend across 3 different terroirs:

  • The Positionborders the Chapel of Saint Cosme and consists ofGrenacheandClairetteThis terroir of Jurassic limestone marls and fossils gives the wines a great minerality and incredible elegance.
  • Le ClauxIt is a 1.8-hectare plot of very old vines vinified in the Burgundian style. The wines from this plot are incredibly aromatic and refined.
  • Hominis Fidesis also part of the estate's old vines. The sandy soils give incredible power and finesse to theGrenache.

The style of the wines

Authentic, powerful and elegant vintages

The majority of the estate's wines belong to theGigondas AOCincluding 4 stars of the appellation:Valbelle, Le Claux, Hominis Fides and Le Poste.Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu and Côtes-du-Rhôneare sourced from purchases of grapes from very high-quality producers in theRhône ValleyNorthern and southern. The estate maintains long-standing contracts with its grower suppliers. The wines are crafted in small batches and transported in barrels to prevent spoilage. The estate's wines are remarkably complex and possess great depth. Whether from their own vineyards or from small négociant businesses, the estate's wines are true reflections of their terroirs, waiting to be discovered!
