the story of Jean-Michel Gerin

In the heart of Côte-Rôtie

An exceptional plot of land

Côte-Rôtieis the northernmost appellation in the Rhône Valley. It is among the smallest but also the most prestigious. The story of the vineyard begins with the acquisition of one of these plots.Jean-Michel GerinHe planted his vines there in 1938, taking over the family estate. He used his father's and grandfather's plantings as a starting point. The first bottle was produced in 1987. A year later, Jean-Michel Gerin carried out his first separate vinification. The lieu-dit"The Main Squares"will be followed by"La Landonne"Founded in 1996, the estate now comprises 12 hectares. Vintage after vintage, he brings increasing precision to his wines. This meticulous work results in classic, age-worthy, and high-quality wines. The estate is also a member of the "Rhône Vignoble" association, which promotes Rhône wines.

Labor and talent

A local symbol

Today, these single-vineyard selections in the heart of Côte-Rôtie are highly sought after. Indeed,"Large Squares", "La Landonne" and"La Viallière"are world-renowned. It's the talent and hard work ofJean-Michel Gerinwhich contributed to this renown. He enabled the estate to continually improve in quality and to be recognized as a regional symbol. His two sonsMichael and Alexis GerinThey have been assisting him for several years now, and are ensuring the future of the estate. They are committed to respecting the terroir and its diversity within the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and IGP Collines Rhodaniennes appellations. They employ high-quality methods throughout the year. In the vineyards, the work is done by hand. In the cellars, sorting and destemming are rigorous and meticulous: only the highest quality grapes are kept! The wines are then aged in oak barrels. These barrels are carefully selected and adapted to each cuvée. Their perfect mastery of this technique allows the grape varieties to shine through, preserving the unique character of each terroir.

The white wines are subtle, fresh, and fragrant. The reds are full-bodied, powerful, and refined. In 2003, planting began in the "La Viallière" vineyard. This was a phenomenal undertaking, as the vines grow on slopes ranging from 40 to 60%. The Gerin family continues to take on new challenges. Jean-Michel established a vineyard in Spain with two friends. His sons, meanwhile, are continuing the planting in the "Les Lézardes" vineyard in Côte-Rôtie.
