Origins & historical roots

The first traces of domaine date back to the Cistercian era and to 1789, when Volnay became private property. Over the centuries, The Golden Sprout has established itself as a key player in the Côte de Beaune vineyards.

The Gérard Potel era (1964–1997)

In 1964, Gérard Potel consolidates the identity of domaine by bringing together plots of land around Volnay, establishing local renown and the quality of the terroir.

Patrick and Benoît Landanger: renewal & biodynamics

Since 1997, Patrick Landanger deployed an ambitious vision: acquisition of fine wines in Côte de Nuits and innovation in the cellar (gravity transfer, without fining/filtration) — a partnership taken over in 2018 by his son Benoît, Committed to Demeter certified biodynamic farming since 2014/18.

THE domaine Today, the estate cultivates nearly 46 acres (≈19 ha) in prestigious appellations: Volnay, Chambolle-Musigny, Corton, Corton-Bressandes, Gevrey, Puligny, etc. The soils vary between limestone, marly clay and marl, perfectly suited to the grape varieties in place.

Biodynamics & sustainable viticulture

Practicing organic and then biodynamic viticulture since 2012, the domaine uses neither herbicides nor pesticides, works its soils by plowing, and maintains the vines according to a lunar calendar, according to Demeter principles.

Winemaking and aging at domaine

Natural methods without heavy inputs

The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by gentle pressing. The must flows by gravity, ferments with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, to preserve the purity of the fruit.

Controlled aging

The wines are aged for 15 to 18 months in barrels (30% new oak for the reds, approximately 20% for the whites), then bottled without excessive sulfites, always by gravity. Some wines benefit from aging in amphorae to accentuate their mineral expression.
