The Côtes du Rhône appellation is one of the largest regional appellations after Bordeaux. All three colors are represented in the production, although nearly 95% are full-bodied and tannic reds from the northern vineyards or light and fruity reds from the southern Rhône Valley. With an aging potential of 1 to 3 years, these red, white, or rosé wines pair well with juicy cuts of beef, seafood, or charcuterie, respectively.

The Côtes-du-Rhône appellation is a regional appellation, covering 171 communes along the Rhône River, from Vienne to Avignon. The main grape varieties are Syrah and Grenache for red wine , and Marsanne and Roussanne for white wine , but there are 21 in total.
This wine-growing region has existed since antiquity: the Romans built Vienne to support the creation of the vineyard. Initially, it was the vineyard on the right bank that constituted the Côte du Rhône : the left bank was added in the 19th century, and the appellation became Côtes du Rhône .

Le Clos du Caillou

Clos du Caillou, as a wine estate, was established in the 1950s by Claude Pouizin. Today, it is managed by his daughter, Sylvie Vacheron, assisted by Bruno Gaspard. Always run with respect for nature, the estate was certified organic in 2010, employing practices similar to biodynamic agriculture.

In the Côtes du Rhône appellation , Clos du Caillou produces five red wines : Le Nature, Les Quartz, Le Caillou, Le Bouquet des Garrigues, and La Réserve. The latter three are also available as white wines . Finally, the only rosé wine is Le Caillou - Rosé.

The estate also offers wines with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation .
