Producer

Producer

La cuvée Morassina comes from a specific vineyard located just above the famous Rabajà cru. Unlike Barbaresco wines from the domaine Aged in large casks, the Morassina spends approximately 18 months in Slovenian oak barrels (new and one-year-old).

Owner and history

Giuseppe Cortese is the guardian of Barbaresco's traditions. Located in the small village of Barbaresco itself, this domaine The family embodies the essence of a mythical terroir: Rabajà. It is an "insider" address, remaining faithful to a classic, unadorned style, where Nebbiolo expresses itself with timeless straightforwardness and elegance.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process is very traditional, using concrete or stainless steel tanks, followed by extended aging in old oak casks. The aim is to avoid masking the Rabajà terroir.

The case of the Barbera "Morassina": This is the exception for the winery. It is vinified in oak barrels (225 liters). Why? Because Barbera naturally has high acidity but few tannins; the small oak barrel provides the structure and "spicy" character it lacks.

The team's opinion

The 2017 vintage for la cuvée Giuseppe Cortese's Morassina is a particularly interesting expression of Barbera. It's a wine that shakes up the usual conventions of... domaine (very traditional) by offering a richer and more structured interpretation.
