A rainy winter, just before the start of the 2019 growing season, favored the growth of our vines. A cool spring allowed budbreak during the second week of April, creating excellent conditions for early flowering, which occurred shortly after further rains at the end of May. The resulting 2019 harvest was abundant, and despite a cool July, the mild temperatures in August and September ensured very gradual and even ripening. The 2019 Rubicon harvest took place over 36 days, beginning in mid-September with the Merlot. The round, ripe tannins from the Pritchett Hill parcels and the aromatic complexity of the Gio parcels were enhanced by the depth of flavor from the Cohn vineyard.

Owner and history

Inglenook belongs to Francis Ford Coppola and his family. Passionate about wine and film, they restored the domaine with love and dedication, respecting its history and heritage. Their goal is to produce exceptional wines that reflect the beauty and authenticity of the Rutherford terroir. Nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley, Inglenook draws its roots from the fertile soils of Rutherford Bench, a land renowned for its exceptional terroir. This unique plot of land, where climat The harmonious blend of soil and grapes, combined to produce grapes of unparalleled quality, lies at the heart of our heritage. Our passion for crafting exceptional wines is rooted in this land, making each bottle a testament to the natural grandeur of Rutherford Bench and the meticulous care we lavish upon it. Welcome to Inglenook, where tradition and terroir are expressed in every sip.

Vinification and aging

Since its first vintage in 1978, Rubicon has been the flagship of red wines from domaine, embodying Francis Coppola's desire to create a great Bordeaux-style wine, that is to say "a wine capable of satisfying contemporary palates, while possessing a historical dimension [that defines] our vineyards at their peak".

The Rubicon takes its name from the small river that Julius Caesar crossed in 49 BC, thus asserting his intention to take control of Rome and triggering a civil war between rival factions. Over time, the expression "crossing the Rubicon" has come to symbolize any irreversible action with revolutionary aims or one whose outcome carries great risk.

True to its unique depth, Inglenook's Rubicon once again demonstrates the brilliant mastery of an assumed risk.

Under the direction of Philippe Bascaules, winemaking director at Inglenook, Rubicon proudly takes its place alongside much older and revered Inglenook vintages in the cellars of collectors around the world.
