說明

THE Rubicon 2020 is the flagship wine (flagship) of domaine InglenookIf the "classic" Cabernet Sauvignon of domaine is already a benchmark, Rubicon represents the quintessence of the estate, a rigorous selection of the best plots in the appellation Rutherford.

Producing a Rubicon in 2020 was a real technical feat for the team. Francis Ford Coppola and the director Philippe Bascaules, given the extreme weather conditions that year in California.

The year 2020 was marked by heat waves and forest fires in Napa Valley. For the Rubicon, the decision was radical: Early Harvest: Almost all of the grapes destined for Rubicon were harvested before the start of the fires at the end of September (Glass Fire). Drastic Selection: The production volume is significantly lower than in previous years. Only batches exhibiting absolute purity and no trace of smoke damage were retained. Terroir and Blend Rubicon is a terroir wine, made from historic vines planted by Gustave Niebaum at the end of the 19th century. Typical blend: It is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (generally more than 90%), complemented by a touch of Merlot and sometimes Cabernet Franc. The "Rutherford Dust": The wine perfectly expresses this earthy and spicy character, with tannins of a powdery fineness for which this area is famous.

Our passion for crafting exceptional wines is rooted in this land, making each bottle a testament to the natural grandeur of Rutherford Bench and the meticulous care we lavish upon it. Welcome to Inglenook, where tradition and terroir are expressed in every sip.

Vinification and aging

The Rubicon takes its name from the small river that Julius Caesar crossed in 49 BC, thus asserting his intention to take control of Rome and triggering a civil war between rival factions. Over time, the expression "crossing the Rubicon" has come to symbolize any irreversible action with revolutionary aims or one whose outcome carries great risk.

True to its unique depth, Inglenook's Rubicon once again demonstrates the brilliant mastery of an assumed risk.

Under the direction of Philippe Bascaules, winemaking director at Inglenook, Rubicon proudly takes its place alongside much older and revered Inglenook vintages in the cellars of collectors around the world.

The team's opinion

Since its first vintage in 1978, Rubicon has been the flagship of red wines from domaine, embodying Francis Coppola's desire to create a great Bordeaux-style wine, that is to say "a wine capable of satisfying contemporary palates, while possessing a historical dimension [that defines] our vineyards at their peak".
